Broken Promises: Higher Taxes

MJ Shannon Promised Property Tax Relief.

He Voted Against It

Your Taxes Went Up!

Residents in the 117th want real property tax relief — not more broken promises from politicians.

Residents across Milford, Orange, and West Haven are clear about what they need: real property tax relief. Families, seniors, and working people are tired of watching their tax bills climb while their incomes stay flat. Seniors worry about being forced out of the homes they’ve lived in for decades. Young families wonder if they can even afford to stay in the communities where they grew up.

MJ Shannon heard those concerns on the campaign trail and promised to deliver property tax relief. But when the moment of truth arrived, he broke that promise — not once, but twice.

He voted No on House Amendment A (LCO 5790), which would have increased the state property tax credit and sent significantly more money to towns to lower mill rates.

He voted No on House Amendment B (LCO 5808), which also pushed for stronger tax relief.

Then he voted Yes for a budget that left homeowners still facing higher bills.

They do not want more broken promises from politicians.

Ray Collins will deliver real relief.

  • Increase the state property tax credit so more money goes directly back into homeowners’ pockets

  • Cap annual property tax increases at about 2% or the rate of inflation (whichever is greater), with any exceptions requiring voter approval

  • Eliminate or fully fund unfunded mandates so the costs stop getting shifted onto homeowners
