MILFORD, CT – May 26, 2026 - Frustrated by rising costs and Rep. MJ Shannon’s broken promises, residents of the 117th District urged Ray Collins to step forward to return common sense leadership to Hartford. Last week, Republican delegates from Milford, Orange, and West Haven answered that call with unanimous endorsement, selecting him as the Republican candidate for State Representative.
“I am truly grateful for the unanimous backing from the Milford, Orange, and West Haven delegates. Their confidence means everything as we carry that energy forward to flip the 117th district,” said Collins.
Collins brings extensive leadership experience to the race as a lifelong resident of the 117th District. His proven record includes serving as former Chairman of the West Haven Police Commission, as a past member of the Board of Education, and as a dedicated youth sports coach.
Katie Martino, who nominated Collins, stated: “As a woman, I find it absolutely disgusting that MJ Shannon couldn’t even answer the simple question ‘What is a woman?’ when asked on the House floor. He didn’t know - or refused to say. This is the kind of out-of-touch nonsense Connecticut families are tired of. Ray represents real values and common sense, unlike the failed liberal ideology that can’t even define basic reality.”
Collins’ campaign will champion practical, common-sense solutions that deliver real results: lowering property taxes, easing the crushing energy costs driven by Hartford’s failed policies, and restoring affordability so working families, seniors, and young people can thrive and build their futures here in the 117th District.
Jeff Christman, West Haven RTC Chairman, who seconded the nomination, emphasized: “Ray understands the real needs of our communities because he lives them every day. He knows what it’s like to raise a family, the pressures of high taxes, and the daily challenges our residents face.”
Ray added, “With property taxes climbing, energy bills soaring, and Connecticut remaining one of the nation’s most expensive places to call home, our residents deserve real relief and better leadership. This November offers a real chance to flip the district and chart a new, more affordable course for our state.”
